Areas of Practice

Special Education

There are many ways that I assist parents ensure that their child receives an education which benefits them in a meaningful way.  The first is through meetings with the School District.  I participate in meetings in all areas of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act:

  • Eligibility;
  • Individualized Education Program [IEP];
  • Placement;
  • Behavior Manifestation.

Through my involvement at meetings, decisions are made using the process intended by Congress when they enacted the law. When the process is followed, and parents have someone to advocate for their child, parents are often quite pleased with the process and less disputes arise. Client feedback on this service has been extremely positive with parents commenting that they feel like a part of the decision making process for the first time.

In some cases the Districts are unwilling to provide what parents believe their child needs. There are several dispute resolution processes:

  • State Complaint Procedure;
  • Mediation;
  • Due Process Hearings; and
  • Court Proceedings.

I have experience with each of them and can help you decide which will work best for your situation.
